Frequently asked questions
What is Orbit?
A connection log for the event. Scan someone's card, it logs that you met. At the end of the event you'll have a map of everyone you spoke to, with your private notes against each conversation.
How do I connect with someone?
Point your phone's camera at the QR code on the front of their card, then tap the link that pops up. That's it - the connection is mutual, so they don't need to scan you back.
How do I see who I've met?
Scan your own card. That opens your dashboard with everyone you've connected with and a private note field next to each one.
Are my notes private?
Only you can read them in the app, and the person you met has their own separate note on the same connection. That said, anyone who picks up your card can reach your dashboard too: the PIN is printed on the back and there's no separate password. Treat it like a notebook on a lanyard rather than a private diary. Useful and portable, but not the place for anything you'd mind a stranger reading.
What if my phone forgets me?
Private browsing, cleared cookies, a new phone - no drama. Scan any card and Orbit will ask for your card number and the 4-digit PIN on the back. That logs you back in.
What if I've lost my card?
Come to the Six Degrees booth with your name. We'll look you up and print a replacement with the same QR and PIN, so your connections carry over and the old card still works if it turns up later.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Orbit runs in your phone's browser. There's nothing to install and no account to create.
What's the big screen at the booth?
A live 3D graph of everyone's connections. Each dot is a registered attendee; every new scan adds a line. It refreshes every few seconds, so you can watch the network grow through the week.
What about my privacy?
Only your name and the profile link you chose at registration are visible to people who scan your card. Your notes are yours alone. Ask at the booth if you'd like your card and connections deleted.
